LUCENA CITY – Five days after a fire hit 15 houses and caused the death of four people in this city, two more broke out on Tuesday, Jan. 30, and burned down seven more houses.

At around 9:30 p.m., a fire of still unknown origin gutted an old abandoned house in Barangay 9, the Quezon police said in a report on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The blaze quickly spread to three other nearby residential houses.

The fire was declared under control at 10:58 p.m.

Investigation is still being conducted to determine the cause of the blaze.

Earlier, a fire broke out around 9:15 a.m. in Barangay Ibabang Iyam and razed three houses.

The police said the blaze was possibly caused by faulty electrical wiring in one of the burned houses after one of the victims smelled burning wires before the fire erupted.

The fire was declared under control 50 minutes after it started.

No casualties or serious injuries were reported in the two fire incidents.

Authorities pegged the damage from the two fires at P1,280,000.

On Jan. 26, a fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay 1 that gutted at least 15 houses. At least four people died and one seriously injured during the blaze.
