2 communist rebels killed in clash with gov’t troops in Sorsogon

MANILA, Philippines — Two communist rebels were killed in an ongoing firefight with government troops in a remote village in Donsol, Sorsogon early Tuesday, the military said.

Reports from the Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division said troops from the 31st Infantry Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Teody Toribio were immediately sent at around 5:45 a.m when it received
reports that members of New People’s Army were conducting extortion activities in the area.

No casualty was recorded on the government side, it added.
