MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives has adopted a resolution expressing strong support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his Bagong Pilipinas campaign, which is believed to be the embodiment of the Chief Executive’s call to unity.
During the session on Monday, House Resolution (HR) No. 1557 was brought to the floor, with Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. sponsoring the proposed measure. It was then adopted after viva voce or voice voting.
The resolution authored by House leaders including Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Gonzales, all other deputy speakers, Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, and other lawmakers, said it is important that Marcos’ governance brand is supported as it reflects a shared commitment to nation-building.
“The program is a call to unity, a rallying cry for every Filipino to come together, transcending differences and working hand in hand for a brighter and more prosperous life ahead,” HR No. 1557 read.
“The presence of government leaders during the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ event reflects a shared commitment to the cause of nation-building, emphasizing that this is a collective effort that involves every sector of our society, and each personal commitment to positive change is a vital building block for the collective progress of the nation,” it added.
On Sunday, Bagong Pilipinas was launched, with Marcos calling on all government workers to steer the country toward a new Philippines while providing the people with “responsive, efficient” service.
The Bagong Pilipinas rally was held while ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s camp held its own rally, where the former leader accused Marcos of using illegal drugs. Duterte’s son, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, also called on Marcos to resign from office if he has no aspirations for the Filipino people.
However, PDEA contradicted Duterte, saying that the current President was never in their watchlist.

Earlier, Romualdez called on Duterte to stop misleading people, asking the Duterte camp to show sufficient proof first before making wild accusations.
Romualdez is one of the crucial pieces to the Uniteam, the 2022 elections tandem of Marcos and Duterte’s daughter, current Vice President Sara Duterte.
