MANILA, Philippines — Two weather systems will bring rain to most parts of the country on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Based on Pagasa’s 4 a.m. advisory, the shear line regenerated, affecting the eastern section of Southern Luzon.

The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will hit the rest of Luzon.

A shear line is the convergence of the cold northeast monsoon and warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.

Pagasa expert Benison Estareja said in a weather report that in Luzon, the shear line will bring rain to the Bicol Region and its neighboring areas, including Marinduque, Romblon, and Oriental Mindoro.

According to the state weather bureau’s general flood advisory issued at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, and Sorsogon may experience light to moderate rainfall over a 12-hour period.

“Be cautious for occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms, as these may lead to flooding and landslides,” Estareja warned affected residents.

In the Visayas, the same weather system will also dampen Capiz, Aklan, and Northern Samar, he added.

For the rest of Visayas, partly cloudy skies to cloudy skies with light rains and thunderstorms may prevail also due to the shear line, the weather specialist noted.

Pagasa’s 4 a.m. advisory also said that the northeast monsoon will bring overcast skies with rain to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Cordillera Administrative Region on Thursday.

It said that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will likely experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains because of the northeast monsoon.

In Mindanao, cloudy skies with chances of light rainfall may prevail over Caraga and Davao Region while the rest of Mindanao may see partly cloudy to cloudy skies, Estareja said in his report.

As for the country’s seaboards, Pagasa raised a gale warning on the eastern coasts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas; northern and eastern coasts of Northern Luzon; and eastern coasts of Central Luzon for Thursday.

Pagasa said waves there may reach as high as 4.5 meters.
