DOE eyeing more energy efficient appliances in gov’t offices

DOE
MANILA, Philippines — Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick Aquino on Wednesday said that they are eyeing replacing appliances used in government offices with more energy-efficient units.

Aquino said this initiative is in line with Administrative Order No. 15 issued by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The order is aimed at accelerating the implementation of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP).

“Ang layunin po natin sa mga susunod na taon [ay] ma-improve na po ‘yan, ma retrofit natin, palitan na po natin ng mas energy efficient options ‘yung mga appliances na ginagamit ng ating pamahalaan,” Aquino said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.

(The goal in the coming years is to improve that, retrofit it, and replace the appliances used by the government with more energy-efficient options.)

“So asahan po ng mga kasamahan natin sa gobyerno na magro-roll out tayo ng mga programa para po ma-upgrade or mas maging energy efficient ‘yung mga existing appliances na ginagamit ng ating pamahalaan,” he added.

(So our colleagues in the government can expect that we will roll out programs to upgrade or make more energy-efficient the existing appliances used by our government.)

Aquino also reiterated the government’s call to conserve energy at work and home.

As stated in the order, “all agencies and instrumentalities of the National Government, including government-owned or controlled corporations, are hereby directed, and all LGUS (local government units) are hereby encouraged, to undertake efforts to ensure efficient and judicious utilization of energy.”

Government agencies are also mandated to have energy audits as well as submit an inventory of their offices’ energy-consuming equipment.
