Angara says gov’t provided add’l P130 million in 2024 national budget for LCP

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said on Tuesday that the government has provided an additional P130 million in the 2024 General Appropriations Act for the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP).

According to Angara, the Senate prioritized in recent years the inclusion of government hospitals in the national budget.

“In the last two years, in the Senate we made sure its inclusion in the budget to help not just the Lung Center and the NKTI (National Kidney and Transplant Institute) but also for our other government hospitals,” he said.

Angara made the statement during the 42nd founding anniversary of the Lung Center of the Philippines.

According to the senator, the additional P130 million fund will be used for the expansion of facilities, acquisition of medical equipment, and personnel training.

“We’re happy to be a part of this very worthy program, and we wish the NKTI, the Lung Center, the best. This is truly a very important program for our people. We wish you all the best and you can count on our support in the Senate,” he added.

Meanwhile, the LCP in partnership with the NKTI also launched its Lung Transplant Program for patients of lung diseases such as lung cancer, emphysema, among others.

“This creates the infrastructure for lung transplants in the country, with the first one to be done within 2024,” President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who attended the launch, added.
