MANILA, Philippines — Quezon 2nd District Rep. David Suarez has been elected as the House of Representatives’ newest deputy speaker, replacing former Batangas 6th District Rep. Ralph Recto who was recently appointed as finance secretary.
During the session on Monday, Majority Floor Leader and Zamboanga City 2nd District Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe made the motion, which was not objected by any lawmaker in the plenary.
Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez was also elected as the caretaker of the district previously represented by Recto.
Suarez is the lawmaker who called on the House, particularly the committee on legislative franchises, to investigate Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) after Laban Kasama ang Bayan host Jeffrey Celiz wrongly claimed that Romualdez spent P1.8 billion for his travels.
