MANILA, Philippines — Panay Island has a stable and ample power supply and residents don’t have to worry about a power outage similar to the dayslong blackout that hit them early this month, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).

Assistant Energy Secretary Mario Marasigan clarified that the Jan. 18 warning of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines was only a “precautionary measure.”

But “our grid system is stable. We have ample supply and we don’t have a shortage. The situation of the grid system is being monitored every 30 minutes … There won’t be rotational brownouts,” he said during the “Saturday News Forum” aired on state-run PTV 4.
