MANILA, Philippines – Caloocan City intends to equip all of its 188 barangays with a fire truck in an effort to enhance the city’s disaster response capabilities.

This was the message of Mayor Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan as he inaugurated a new fire truck and fire fighting equipment in Barangay 132.

“You know that I have long been advocating for effective ways to address the needs of our people in times of disaster, so I am pleased to see Barangay 132 prioritizing this project,” Along said.

He said that Caloocan City is actively working to increase its fleet of emergency vehicles and response teams to cater to the needs of its expanding population.

Along expressed his commitment to equipping each barangay in Caloocan with modern fire fighting equipment.

“Like Barangay 132, we aim for each barangay in Caloocan to have its own fire truck and other disaster response equipment for swift action,” he said.

Along also disclosed plans for the city government to collaborate with the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Caloocan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). This partnership aims to train volunteers and other personnel in the effective use of the new fire truck and equipment.

“As part of the city government’s support, we will also engage with the BFP and CDRRMO for training on the proper use of your new equipment. The best equipment is of little use without the knowledge to operate it effectively,” Along said.

The event was also attended by Barangay Chairman Reynante Mariano and District 1 Representative Cong. Oca Malapitan.
