President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday turned over 360 housing units to Cavite residents displaced by Manila Bay rehabilitation program and broke ground for the second phase of Ciudad Kaunlaran project in Bacoor, Cavite.

The President said the National Housing Authority was able to construct over 80,000 housing units nationwide as part of the government’s efforts to provider shelter to Filipino families, including the P700-million Emergency Housing Assistance Program for families affected by disasters.

“I urge all beneficiaries to use the housing benefits to improve your lives and ensure a better future for you and your families,” Marcos said in his speech.

The President earlier said that the government would build 1 million housing units for Filipinos every year until his term ends in 2028 to address the 6 million housing backlog in the country. He said the housing projects of the government under the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Program (4PH) are intended for minimum wage earners, informal settlers, those living in danger zones and “our people who desire cheap, simple and comfortable houses.”—NESTOR CORRALES
