Construction worker drowns in Pasig River

MANILA, Philippines — A construction worker drowned after falling from the Intramuros-Binondo seawall in Manila, authorities said Friday.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recovered the remains of a 33-year-old construction worker who drowned in the Pasig River on Thursday night.

According to the PCG, the victim “jumped” off the seawall. The Manila Police District (MPD) reported that the incident occurred around 7:30 pm.

At around 10:37 p.m., Coast Guard divers recovered the body of the construction worker.

PCG personnel then turned the body over to the MPD homicide division at around 11:30 pm.

In a separate report, the MPD said that the “cursory examination on the cadaver revealed no sign of any external injury.”

The MPD then brought the body to a nearby funeral service provider for autopsy and proper handling.
