MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted another successful rotation and resupply mission in its outposts in the West Philippine Sea in the first few days of 2024.
PCG commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan on Wednesday said the BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) and BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) conducted the activity from Jan. 3 to 9 at Lawak Island, Panata Island, and Pag-asa Island.
“The said PCG vessels safely arrived at the Port of Buliluyan in Bataraza, Palawan, after delivering essential supplies to Coast Guard personnel deployed at PCG units situated in the Kalayaan Island Group,” Gavan said in a statement.
Gavan also said the Coast Guard facilities in the three areas will be upgraded this year.
Meanwhile, PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo said China Coast Guard vessels were spotted monitoring the said activity, but it is not yet clear if there are incidents reported between two Coast Guards.
