MANILA, Philippines — Working hours in the Senate have been shortened in line with the observance of the religious event Traslacion 2024.

In a letter sent to the media, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug said Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri has instructed that work in the upper chamber shall only be until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9.

“Committee hearings, technical working group and other meetings may proceed or continue. The assigned staff for said hearings of meetings shall continue to assist unless otherwise directed by the chairperson,” the letter reads.

“The Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms and Maintenance and General Services Bureau personnel who follow shifting schedule are not included in the shortened working hours,” it adds.

January 9 marks the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Over a million Catholic devotees joined the Black Nazarene procession, which made a much-awaited return in 2024 after years of being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
