MANILA, Philippines — A generally fair weather with partly cloudy skies is expected over Metro Manila and nearby provinces on January 9, Tuesday, as Traslacion for the Black Nazarene feast resumes in full swing after a three-year break due to the pandemic.
Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday afternoon showed that only the northernmost part of Luzon would be affected by the northeast monsoon or amihan, which is gradually weakening as of now.
“Itong amihan ay patuloy pa ring makaka-apekto sa Luzon at inaasahan po natin na hihina ito, kaya ang maapektuhan lamang ay itong Northern Luzon at Central Luzon,” weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said.
(This amihan still affects Luzon but we expect it to weaken, so it would only be felt over Northern Luzon at Central Luzon.)
“Kaya po sa malaking bahagi po ng Luzon kasama po ang Metro Manila, bukas, magiging maganda at maaliwalas ang panahon kung saan makakaranas po tayo ng bahagyang maulap hanggang sa maulap ang kalangitan,” he added.
(That’s why for a huge part of Luzon including Metro Manila, tomorrow, we would have a fair weather condition where we may see partly cloudy to cloudy skies.)
Meanwhile, the eastern portions of Visayas and Mindanao would still feel the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, while the shearline — or the area where the northeast monsoon and easterlies meet, which causes rains — would be affecting Bicol Region and Southern Luzon.
“Boundary line po ‘yan (shearline), dito po nagsasalubong, naghahalo po ‘yong malamamig na hangin at mainit na hangin, ang resulta nagkakaroon po ng mga thunderstorm at kalat-kalat na pag-ulan,” he added.
(That’s the boundary line where the cold winds from the northeast monsoon and the warm winds from the easterlies meet, resulting in thunderstorms and isolated rain showers.)
Temperatures over Metro Manila are expected to play around 23 to 32 degrees Celsius; Laoag with 21 to 31 degrees; Tuguegarao with 21 to 30 degrees; Baguio with 16 to 25 degrees; Legazpi with 25 to 29 degrees; and Tagaytay with 22 to 29 degrees.
Visayas and Mindanao cities tend to be warmer because of the easterlies, with Tacloban, Cebu, and Davao expected to register temperatures between 26 to 31 degrees Celsius; Iloilo with 27 to 31 degrees; Cagayan de Oro with 25 to 31 degrees; and Zamboanga with 24 to 34 degrees.
No gale warning has been raised as of now in any part of the country’s waters, which means small boat operators and fisherfolk are free to set sail.
