MANILA, Philippines — Police chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. once again debunked claims that the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are plotting to destabilize the Marcos administration.

Acorda, in his message during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony, said he respects everyone’s freedom of expression and freedom of speech, but he draws the line to those spreading false information.

“It hurts me that there are people na gusto lang maging sikat yung kanilang vlog ay gagawa ng mga disinformation. No less than my face, the face of the chief of staff, posted and viral saying the AFP and the PNP [are] withdrawing support or asking for the resignation of the President is unforgivable,” said Acorda.

The PNP chief emphasized they “don’t tolerate such things.” He then called on social media content creators to avoid spreading disinformation just for their vlogs to be viral.

“Alam ng ating mga kababayan na tayo ay nag sasakripisyo buong buo — sana naman konting respeto kahit sa uniporme lang. Huwag naman ipost using disinformation just to create a viral vlog,” he said.

(Our countrymen know that we will sacrifice everything — I hope there is a little respect for those who are in uniform. Don’t use disinformation just to create a viral vlog.)
