DMW shuts down illegal recruitment firm in Malate

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday closed down an office in Manila that engaged in the alleged illegal recruitment of Filipino workers in Germany.

According to the DMW, Gisgerman Document Facilitation Services (GIS Manila) in Malate, Manila, was offering hotel worker, caregiver, and nurse jobs in Germany, with fees of P102,000 for language training on top of a P5,000 enrollment fee.

The Migrant Workers Protection Bureau said that after the applicant finishes their training, the firm would directly refer them to a German employer, with a P99,000 processing fee.

DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo Cacdac said that the department will not tolerate entities that prey on Filipinos who want to work in other countries.

“We will never tolerate any individuals or companies preying on the hope of Filipinos wanting to land a decent job abroad. Again, I am reiterating this warning to our Kababayans to always check the DMW website (www.dmw.gov.ph) for the list of licensed agencies and approved job orders to avoid illegal recruitment,” DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo Cacdac said.

The DMW said that the firm and its officers will be added to its “List of Persons and Establishments with Derogatory Record,” and will face charges of illegal recruitment committed by a syndicate.

The department also urged victims of the agency to contact them for the filing of cases against the firm.
