Manila issues road closures, rerouting guidelines for Nazarene procession

MANILA, Philippines — Local government of Manila has identified the roads that will be closed during the annual procession of the Black Nazarene on the feast day on January 9 (Tuesday).

In its Facebook post on Thursday, the local government said the following roads will be closed starting 9 pm Monday (January 8) to Tuesday (January 9):

Stretch of Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to P. Burgos Avenue

The announcement also said the following rerouting schemes will be implemented during the two days:

Vehicles traveling southbound of Mel Lopez Boulevard (R-10) to Roxas Boulevard – turn left to Capulong St., straight to Yuseco St. to Lacson Avenue.

Vehicles traveling southbound of Rizal Avenue that will use McArthur Bridge to go to south area – turn left to CM. Recto Avenue, left to Legarda St.

Vehicles traveling southbound of A. Mendoza St. to Quezon Boulevard – turn right to Fugoso St., to Rizal Avenue

Vehicles traveling westbound lane of España Boulevard to Quezon Boulevard – turn left to N. Reyes St., to CM. Recto Avenue

Vehicles traveling southbound of J. Abad Santos Avenue/R. Regente to Intramuros Area – turn right to San Fernando St., left to Madrid St., left to Mulle, Dela Industria Binondo-Intramuros Bridge to A. Soriano Ave. or they may take Juan Luna St., right to Muelle Dela Industria to Binondo-Intramuros Bridge

Vehicles coming from A. Mabini St. that will use TM. Kalaw Avenue – turn right to U.N. Avenue, straight to P. Guanzon St. to Mabini Bridge

Vehicles coming from Ma. Orosa St. that will use TM. Kalaw Avenue – turn right to U.N. Avenue, straight to P. Guazon St. to Mabini Bridge

Vehicles traveling northbound of Taft Avenue to P. Burgos Avenue – turn right to U.N. Avenue, straight to P. Guanzon St. to Mabini Bridge

Light vehicles traveling northbound of Roxas Boulevard to P. Burgos Avenue – turn right to U.N. Avenue, straight to P. Guanzon St. to Mabini Bridge

Trucks and trailers traveling northbound of Roxas Boulevard to Mel Lopez Boulevard (Pier Area) – turn right to Pres. Quirino Avenue to Mabini Bridge

The 2024 procession or ‘Traslacion’ marks the resumption of the event after it was suspended from 2021 to 2023 due to Covid-19 pandemic.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has also declared January 9 to be a special non-working day in the city of Manila in a proclamation on Thursday.
