MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) resumed Wednesday its face-to-face interview of Philippine citizenship applicants.

In an advisory, the BI said it is restarting the in-person interviews as the World Health Organization had declared COVID-19 no longer a public health emergency of international concern as of May 2023.

The move was prompted also because President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. lifted the public health emergency declaration for COVID-19 in July 2023.

“Thus, all prior Orders, Memoranda, and issuances that were in effect during the state of Public Health Emergency were deemed withdrawn, revoked, or canceled and are no longer in effect,” the BI noted.

“[E]ffective 03 January 2024, the Bureau shall resume the face-to-face interview of applicants applying for Petitions for Recognition as Filipino Citizens,” the BI also said.
