Another suspect in slay attempt on Lanao del Sur Gov. Adiong arrested

Police arrest two suspects in Skyway robberies

MANILA, Philippines — Another suspect involved in the ambush of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. was arrested last Dec. 30 in Negros Occidental, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

In a report on Tuesday, the CIDG said its operatives arrested 52-year-old Ameno Amatonding along Barangay Aguisan, Himamaylan, around 5:04 p.m.

His arrest was carried out through multiple arrest warrants issued by Presiding Judge Samina Sampaco Macabando-Usman of Marawi City Regional Trial Court Branch 8 on December 20 for 19 counts of attempted murder, four counts of murder, and three counts of frustrated murder.

“Amatonding was positively identified by a witness based on his statement on the ambush of Governor Adiong that happened last February 17, 2023,” CIDG director Major General Romeo Caramat said.

The suspect is in the custody of the  CIDG Capiz Police Field Unit.

Based on a police report, the convoy of Adiong was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in Maguing town last year, resulting in the death of four persons.
