MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Tuesday reported the collection of around P20.8 million in penalties from unregistered (colorum) public utility vehicles (PUVs) in December last year.
According to the DOTr, its anti-colorum campaign imposed fines of P200,000 per unregistered van and P1,000,000 per unregistered bus.
“The recent anti-colorum campaign targeted unauthorized PUVs with the sole purpose of safeguarding the welfare of road users,” the agency said in a post on social media.
The DOTr likewise noted that it is expecting to bust more illegal and unregistered PUVs in its intensified campaign.
The DOTr’s Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) urged the public to report any suspicious or colorum transport to its hotline at 0920-964-3687.
In early December last year, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) – an attached agency of the DOTr – made a similar call to Filipinos to report colorum PUVs.
Meanwhile, LTO Chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza II warned unregistered motor vehicle owners that his agency’s strict implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy will resume in January 2024.
