The parcels, which arrived on December 18, were declared as brochures and have been sent from Texas, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, in the United States.

“After conducting physical inspection, these were found to contain plastic pouches containing white crystalline materials suspected to be shabu,” the BOC said

A chemical analysis by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency showed that the materials were indeed Methamphetamine Hydrochloride – commonly known as “shabu” – a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165, or the Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.

BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio assured the public that they “will continue to strengthen our coordination with our partner law enforcement agencies in protecting our nation from the damaging effects of drug trafficking.”

Only a few days ago, the BOC also thwarted an attempt to smuggle over P56 million worth of shabu into the country which were also found to have been shipped from the United States.
