CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — The discovery and seizure of some P55,200,000 worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) at the customs port here led to the arrest of a former overseas Filipino worker in Trece Martires, Cavite in a “controlled delivery” operation on Tuesday night, December 19.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 3 said the package from Long Beach, California, in the United States arrived at the port of Clark on December 17.

PDEA and the Bureau of Customs Port of Clark discovered the package containing eight kilos of suspected shabu and seized it.

A sting operation against the consignee, identified as Michael Florendo, 36, a resident of Trece Martires, was then planned.

“The parcels containing the illegal drugs emanated from Long Beach, California, USA, and were consigned to Florendo. The discovery of the illicit items prompted us to launch a controlled delivery operation,” PDEA Region 3 said in the statement.

It said the operation was conducted with the Cavite police.

The suspected shabu will undergo a forensic examination at the agency’s laboratory in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga while the suspect is detained at its jail facility.

It said the suspect will be charged with alleged importation of illegal drugs in violation of the Comprehensive Anti-Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
