4.9-magnitude quake hits municipality in Davao Occidental

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology says that a magnitude-4.8 earthquake shook Jose Abad Santos Municipality in Davao Occidental on Thursday.

MANILA, Philippines — A 4.9-magnitude earthquake shook Jose Abad Santos Municipality in Davao Occidental on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The temblor occurred at 9:35 a.m., 12 kilometers (km) southeast of Jose Abad Santos.

It was earlier reported by Phivolcs at magnitude 4.8 and was upgraded a few hours later.

Phivolcs said that the quake was tectonic in origin, with a depth of focus of 33 km.
