Lower import rates on rice, corn, meat extended until Dec 2024
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the extension of reduced tariffs on rice, corn, and meat products until the end of December 2024 to keep prices stable amid threats of El Niño in the coming months.
In Executive Order No. 50, Marcos said the lengthened lower import rates are due to the looming negative impact of dry weather on the price and production of rice and corn and the ongoing prevalence of African Swine Fever that restricts meat trade in some exporting countries.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said it recorded 24 more firework-related injuries, bringing the total to 52 less than a week before New Year’s Eve.
According to the DOH, the 24 injuries were recorded from 6 a.m. December 25 to 5:59 a.m. December 26.
