PH Patriots face Singapore
THE AIRASIA Philippine Patriots aim to gain some momentum heading to the next round as they take on the Singapore Slingers today in the Asean Basketball League over at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Though they are assured of the second spot in the playoffs, the Patriots of head coach Glenn Capacio cannot afford to lose another match as they are in the midst of a slump that has seen them win just one of their last four games.
The Patriots of businessman Tony Boy Cojuangco and Harbour Centre CEO and president Mikee Romero are out to improve their 14-5 (win-loss) record. The San Miguel Beermen are leading the 8-team field with a 16-4 mark.
Though they’re still feeling the pinch of a 97-93 overtime loss to the Malaysian Dragons last Sunday, the Patriots are still slightly favored over the Slingers, whom they beat in the first two rounds.
The Slingers are likewise expected to go all-out since they still have a good chance of making it to the semis.
With an 8-10 record, the Slingers can still tie either the Dragons and the Warriors at the end of the eliminations. The Warriors and the Dragons have 10-9 marks. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
