MANILA, Philippines — Two people were reported dead while 10 were injured due to firecracker-related incidents nationwide, the Philippine National Police said on Monday.
The PNP said these casualties were reported as of 6 a.m. on December 25.
Also, the PNP recorded six incidents of illegal discharge of firearms where one person was reported to be injured.
Authorities also confiscated a total of 34,031 prohibited firecrackers worth P180,240.
Among the confiscated firecrackers are piccolo, poppop, five-star, pla-pla, judas belt, “sawa” and others.
The Department of Health has discouraged the usage of firecrackers in celebration of holidays.
Instead, the DOH urged the public to use other noisemaking alternatives, while encouraging local governments to stage community fireworks displays.
