TUGUEGARAO CITY — Two alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with Army soldiers in Gattaran town in Cagayan on Saturday morning (Dec. 23), the military said.

In a report, Major Rigor Pamittan, 5th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the rebels – a man and a woman – were part of a 12-man NPA group belonging to the East Front Committee ng Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley and led by a certain “Ka Karl.”

The rebels were killed in a one-hour gunfight with the soldiers from the 95th Infantry Battalion which they encountered in Barangay (village) San Carlos, Pamittan said. He did not specify the time the clash happened.

Pamittan said the identities of the slain rebels is unknown as of this writing.

Soldiers seized an M-16 Armalite rifle at the clash site, he added.
