MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) said 3,254 traffic rules violators were apprehended in Metro Manila in the last 30 days.

LTO-NCR Regional Director Roque I. Verzosa III said in a statement Saturday that the majority of the apprehended motorists violated the Seat Belt Use Act (Republic Act 750) and Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009 (Republic Act 10054).

Because of this, Verzosa reminded the public of the importance of seatbelts and helmets to ensure their safety.

“Using a seatbelt is crucial for safety in a vehicle. It restrains passengers during sudden stops or collisions, preventing ejection and reducing the risk of serious injuries or fatalities. Seatbelts distribute force across the strongest parts of the body, minimizing impact on vulnerable areas,” he said.

Based on the LTO-NCR’s data, operations from November 16 to December 15 resulted in the apprehension of:

When combined, the government operations apprehended 3,132 motorists committing the five violations which, according to Versoza, is 111.478 percent higher than the recorded 1,481 in the same period last year.

He said that in 2022, the LTO-NCR apprehended 876 for overloading, 221 for not wearing helmet, 186 for not using the seatbelt, 139 for operating vehicles with defective accessories, devices, and equipment, and 59 for operating an unregistered vehicle.

As for fines collected, Versoza said the total jumped by 199.57 percent to P11,439,588.09 as of December 15 from P3,818,669.56 in the same period last year.
