Fire in Tondo, Manila reaches 5th alarm, firefighter hurt

MANILA, Philippines — A 25-year-old fire officer was hurt in a fifth alarm blaze that broke out on Capulong Street in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday evening.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)  confirmed this in an advisory early Wednesday morning, identifying the individual as Fire Officer 1 Philip Chua.

BFP said Chua sustained a minor laceration on his right palm. Apart from Chua, no other individuals have been reported hurt or injured.

The fire that spread through more or less 200 houses in the area was declared under control at 12:25 a.m.

BFP said it broke out at 9:49 p.m., immediately reaching the fifth alarm at around 11:02 p.m. on Tuesday.

The agency has yet to provide details on what caused the fire.
