MANILA, Philippines — After weakening into a tropical depression on Monday morning, Kabayan (international name: Jelawat) has further downgraded into a low-pressure area (LPA), the state weather bureau reported.

In its latest cyclone update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that it was last spotted in the vicinity of Cabanglasan, Bukidnon, around 3 p.m., moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour.

“Kabayan weakened into an LPA at 2:30 p.m.” the bulletin said.

It added that the LPA “will continue to cross the rugged terrain of Mindanao, and emerge over the Sulu Sea between this afternoon and evening.”

However, Pagasa noted that “a slight improvement in the environmental conditions may allow this disturbance to reorganize and re-develop into a tropical depression.”

Following the weakening of the Kabayan, the agency said it likewise lifted the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in all areas nationwide.
