Kabayan makes landfall in Davao Oriental, weakens into tropical depression

MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — Tropical Storm Kabayan (international name: Jelawat) has weakened into a tropical depression as it made landfall in Manay, Davao Oriental, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Monday morning.
In its 11 a.m. cyclone update, Pagasa said Kabayan is almost stationary within the vicinity of Caraga, Davao Oriental. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts of up to 90 kph.
Earlier, the state weather bureau reported that Kabayan landed over Barangay Concepcion, Manay, Davao Oriental around 9:30 a.m.
Following this development, Pagasa lifted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 in six Mindanao areas.
However, Signal No. 1 was raised in two more areas in Luzon, namely: the southern portion of Palawan (Sofronio Española, Brooke’s Point, Bataraza, Balabac, Rizal, Quezon, Narra) and Cagayancillo Islands.
Meanwhile, 25 provinces in Visayas and Mindanao remained under Signal No. 1. These are:
