MANILA, Philippines — Homegrown motorcycle taxi app Angkas has welcomed a distinguished addition to its team, aimed at revamping its app experience and addressing technical issues.

During the Angkas general assembly, attended by over 200 Angkas Chapter Presidents, CEO George Royeca introduced Josef Puchinger, a tech expert entrusted with enhancing the app’s performance and user interface.

Hailing from Vienna, Austria, Puchinger brings with him an impressive 28-year tech career. With two decades dedicated to building scalable systems globally, including significant contributions to internet banking and a leading sports betting platform, Puchinger’s expertise spans a range of tech domains.

His prior work in the logistics sector, developing delivery apps akin to Angkas, positions him perfectly for this crucial role. Expressing his commitment, Puchinger emphasized the team’s efforts to refine the app, assuring biker partners they’re working round the clock to elevate the app’s functionality.

“When you face challenges with bookings, rest assured, the Angkas Tech Team is fully engaged. I’ve personally relied on Angkas daily since arriving in Manila, and I deeply appreciate this exceptional service,” Puchinger said.

Addressing recent technical glitches in the booking system, Royeca attributed these hiccups to an outdated system. Acknowledging the current limitations in scalability, Royeca stressed their ongoing efforts to optimize operations for both riders and passengers.

Drawing an analogy, he likened the app’s situation to a car with a fixed engine, emphasizing their focused efforts on maximizing the system’s potential within existing constraints.

“While our app may resemble a well-optimized Honda Civic engine-wise, we’re relentlessly fine-tuning it to ensure seamless bookings, especially during the demanding November-December period,” Royeca said, urging patience and understanding from their biker-partners amidst these improvements.

Looking ahead, Royeca unveiled plans for a new Angkas app set for release next year, promising increased efficiency and income opportunities for partners. “This upcoming app signifies our evolution as a Filipino company. We’ve grown significantly, and our aim is to achieve world-class status—a challenging endeavor. Think of the new app as the ‘Angkas Ferrari’—a superior and refined experience,” he shared.

Both Royeca and Puchinger affirmed their commitment to delivering an enhanced Angkas app experience, ensuring a more seamless platform that prioritizes the welfare of their valued biker community and an excellent customer experience for their loyal passengers.
