UP attack survivor mired in medical bills

The University of the Philippines (UP) student leader who was attacked by robbers on campus in February is now considered out of danger but needs financial support for her medical expenses amounting to more than a million pesos. Lordei Camille Hina, 20, may be discharged soon after a three-month stay at Capitol Medical Center but will still undergo rehabilitation therapy and medication, according to UP student regent Krissy Conti. “However, her hospital release is pending until financial obligations are settled,” Conti said in a letter to UP president Alfredo Pascual and UP Diliman chancellor Caesar Saloma.  Hina, a political science major, is secretary general of the Center for Nationalist Studies, a student organization. She was serving as a volunteer for the University Student Council on Feb. 1 when she was clubbed and stabbed in the head before being robbed by two men who pretended to be interested in renting a booth for the coming university fair. Those who wish to help her may contact her mother, Connie Hina, at [email protected] or make a deposit in her Banco de Oro savings account, number 2780-246-533. Daphne Magturo
