Tropical depression Kabayan has kept its strength as it accelerates westward over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau reported on Sunday evening.

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression Kabayan has kept its strength as it accelerates westward over the Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau reported on Sunday evening.

In its 8 p.m. cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Kabayan was last spotted some 290 kilometers (kms) east of Southeast Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, moving 10 kms per hour (kph).

Surigao del Sur Gov. Alexander Pimentel has placed the entire province under heightened alert and ordered the ramping up of disaster preparations to achieve zero casualty as Kabayan is expected to hit land Sunday night or early Monday morning, per projection of the state weather bureau.

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Kabayan has maintained its strength while slowly moving closer to eastern part of Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

In a late afternoon advisory, state meteorologists said that the tropical depression was estimated to be located either 385 kilometers (kms) east of Davao City or 315 kms east southeast of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur.

TACLOBAN CITY — Due to threats of Tropical Depression Kabayan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) offices in Eastern Samar and Southern Leyte provinces have prohibited vessels from venturing into the sea.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) also asked all local government units in Eastern Visayas to activate their respective disaster units and monitor the weather situation.

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression Kabayan has maintained its strength as it slowly moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday afternoon.

Citing Pagasa’s 2 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Kabayan was last spotted 440 kilometers (km) east of Davao City with maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 70 kph.

MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists on Sunday warned residents living near Angat Dam in Bulacan province to evacuate their homes as the dam continues to release water amid possible rains from Tropical Depression Kabayan and the northeast monsoon.

According to the Hydrometeorology Division of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the rush of water from the dam’s spillway gates could be dangerous to residents living near the Angat River in Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliwag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, Hagonoy, and Paombong.

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Kabayan may make landfall in Surigao del Sur or Davao Oriental between late Sunday night and Monday morning, the state weather agency said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Kabayan is likely to hit either of the two provinces between 11 p.m. on Sunday and 2 a.m. on Monday.

MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) east of Surigao del Sur developed into a tropical depression and is now named Kabayan, the state weather agency said Sunday.

In a bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the Kabayan may hit Surigao del Sur or the provinces nearby by Sunday night or early Monday morning.
