NCRPO to deploy 4,400 cops in Metro Manila for two-day transport strike

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will deploy over 4,400 officers in Metro Manila, 152 patrol vehicles, and 147 other vehicles to ferry commuters who will be affected by the upcoming two-day nationwide transport strike.

Based on data NCRPO sent to INQUIRER.net on Wednesday, a total of 4,497 police officers will be sent to crowded areas in the region to secure public safety.

Of this figure, 693 officers will come from the Northern Police District, 943 from the Eastern Police District, 1,045 from the Manila Police District, 777 from the Southern Police District, and 1,039 from Quezon City.

Last Dec. 11, the transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) announced that it would conduct a strike on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 14 and 15.

According to Piston, its move is in protest of the Dec. 31 deadline for franchise consolidation and phaseout of traditional jeepneys.
