MANILA, Philippines — An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member was arrested by authorities on Tuesday during an operation in Basilan province, according to police.

In a report on Wednesday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified the 31-year-old ASG member as Gerry Mapula Abing alias “Pegging,” who was captured in Barangay Malo-ong San Jose, Lamitan.

Abing’s apprehension stemmed from an arrest warrant for violating Republic Act (RA) 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law, and RA 9519 (illegal possession of explosives) issued by Executive Judge Verna Kate Santos of Isabela City Regional Trial Court.
