Pagasa: Sunny weather in most of PH with temperature as high as 34°C

MANILA, Philippines — Monday’s weather in most parts of the country will predominantly be sunny because of the influence of easterlies.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) predicted the temperature to reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius.

“Due to the easterlies, anticipate warm weather in a large part of Luzon, with some partly cloudy skies, particularly in the eastern areas like Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region,” Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a mix of Filipino and English during a morning public report.

Easterlies are warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.

By afternoon, temperatures may hit 33 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, Tuguegarao, Isabela, and a large portion of Palawan, according to Estajera. He advised residents in these areas to take caution against the heat.

He added that similar weather conditions may prevail in Visayas with fair weather anticipated specifically in its central and western regions.

Estajera said the eastern portion of the Visayas, particularly Tacloban City and Metro Cebu, may expect temperatures as high as 32 degrees Celsius.

“Isolated rain showers are also possible due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar,” the Pagasa weather specialist also said.

As for Mindanao, Pagasa’s forecast showed it would experience a generally fair weather on Monday despite possible rain showers in Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

“By midday, the hottest areas are expected to be in the southern part of Mindanao, including Zamboanga City, Cotabato, General Santos City, and Davao City, which may [have] temperatures [of] up to 34 degrees Celsius,” Estajera explained.

“In the afternoon until evening, some areas, particularly in the Caraga Region, Davao Region, and the province of Bukidnon, are expected to experience rainfall,” he continued.

On Sunday, Pagasa noted that the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, has “almost weakened” and barely influencing the country’s weather situation.

Pagasa said no gale warning has been issued along the coastal areas of the Philippines on Monday.
