LUCENA CITY — Authorities in Pangil town in Laguna province have cleared a local school of any explosives after a bomb scare on Tuesday morning gripped the educational institution.
Local school officials announced that no explosives were found in the school premises after a thorough search by police and Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) bomb experts.
“Everything is well now in Pangil Elementary School (PES),” the school officials made the announcement on their Facebook page around 1 p.m.
The post includes photos of police and Army soldiers conducting searches in every corner of the PES.
The school authorities also warned the public of “fake news” about the bomb scare, but did not elaborate.
Earlier, Mayor Gerald Aritao, declared that classes at all levels in private and government schools in the locality and transactions in public offices were suspended due to the bomb threat.
Police reported that at around 7:30 a.m. a PES student got hold of a printed message that warned there would be an explosion at PES and some schools within Pangil in a few hours.
The bomb scare prompted the authorities to suspend classes until the experts finished the inspection of the school premises.
Meanwhile, the local government of Famy town, some five kilometers away from Pangil, also suspended school classes at all levels due to the bomb scare in their neighboring town.
“This is a preparedness action of our town. Doesn’t matter that we are being OA (over-acting) about this because this is for the safety of every Famileño,” the local disaster risk reduction management office posted on its Facebook at about 1 p.m.
