MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems were forecast to bring cloudy skies and rain over parts of the country on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 5 a.m. advisory, the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will bring overcast skies with rain over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

The same weather system is seen to cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain in the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Cagayan and Isabela, meanwhile, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Sunday due to the shear line, which is the convergence of cool and warm winds.

Pagasa likewise said that slightly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to the easterlies, or warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.

We do not expect any typhoons to enter or form within the Philippine area of responsibility. For this week, there may be little chance of us having a typhoon, at least for the first week of December,” state weather specialist Obet Badrina said in Filipino during a public weather report.

The state weather agency further said that a gale warning is in effect over the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte due to the northeast monsoon.
