Bad weather caused by shear line affects 1 million people, says NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Over one million people have been affected by the rains and floods brought by the shear line, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday.

The shear line is defined as the convergence of cold and warm winds.

It had an impact on the conditions of a total of 285,690 families or 1,157,487 persons.

Two deaths were recorded, while one person was injured.

Damage to agriculture stands at more than ₱120 million.

NDRRMC has yet to receive data on infrastructure damage.

Meanwhile, the government assisted worth more than ₱68 million to the victims of bad weather.

Downpours are expected to continue in several parts of the country on Friday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, this situation prevails due to the northeast monsoon or amihan and the easterlies.

Amihan refers to the cold winds blowing from Siberia, while easterlies mean the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
