MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4 earthquake struck the province of Catanduanes on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs said Caramoran, Catanduanes, was hit by a tectonic quake at 4:41 a.m.
The shaking had a 16-kilometer depth of focus.
Based on the scales of Phivolcs, the temblor logged Instrumental Intensity III in Virac, Catanduanes.
Instrumental Intensity II was felt in Tabaco and Legazpi City in Albay, Pili in Camarines Sur, and Castilla in Sorsogon.
Instrumental Intensity I was experienced in Sipocot, Camarines Sur, City of Sorsogon and Donsol, Sorsogon.

State volcanologists also said Naga, Camarines Sur, and Virac, Bato, and Gigmoto in Catanduanes, felt the tremor at Intensity III.
The earthquake was also felt at Intensity IV in Pandan and Bagamanoc in Catanduanes.
The earthquake is not expected to cause damage or aftershocks.
In a previous interview with INQUIRER.net, Phivolcs Science Research Analyst Lara Guianan explained intensity is based on the ground motion felt by people in the affected area.
She also said instrumental intensity is the quake’s strength measured by an intensity meter or scale.
