DSWD aid senior citizens MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday reported that 41,927 indigent senior citizens from Antique have received their social pension for 2023. Republic Act 11916, which lapsed into law in July 2022, has officially doubled the monthly pension of indigent senior citizens from P500 to P1,000.

“Our DSWD Field Office-6 (Western Visayas) was able to complete the first-semester payout in April and the second-semester payout last October,” said DSWD Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez in a statement.

“The Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens would be of great help to further assist the elderly persons for their daily subsistence and other medical needs,” he added.

The social pension is provided to elderly people aged 60 and older who are frail, sickly, or have a disability, according to DSWD.
