MANILA, Philippines — Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has issued a warning against fake social media accounts that falsely announce luggage lost by travelers can be purchased by the public.

The warning comes, after a deceptive post circulated online claiming that the baggage tagged as lost belongings at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) may be bought by buyers.

“The public is warned not to transact with fake online accounts like a recent post on Facebook claiming that lost pieces of luggage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) are on sale,” MIAA said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

MIAA added it does not sell the luggage, and it has policies on how to handle the items.

“The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the airline operators have clear and established protocols in safekeeping and disposal of lost or left-behind items,” it said.

“Selling these items online is certainly not one of them,” it stressed.
