Teacher, spouse slain in Cotabato province gun attack
COTABATO CITY – Unidentified gunmen ambushed and killed a lady school teacher and her husband in Banisilan town, Cotabato province on Thursday morning.
Major Elexon Bona, Banisilan police chief, identified the fatalities as Angelie Cañete Romanguera, 43, teacher of Pantar Elementary School, and her husband, Juanito Romanguera, 56, a tricycle driver.
Bona said the couple were on their way to Pantar Elementary School and as they approached Barangay Cross Thailand, one of two men on board a motorbike opened fire at them.
“The suspects immediately fled after the incident,” Bona said in a radio interview.
Romelito Flores, Cotabato schools division superintendent, has condemned the attack against the school teacher.
Article continues after this advertisement“(The) Schools Division Office in Cotabato province is saddened by this shooting incident involving our teacher and we strongly condemn this evil act,” Flores said.

“We hope and pray that the proper authorities will do a thorough investigation and that justice be given to the victim and her family. Our sincere condolences to the family members,” he added.
On November 15, unidentified gunmen also killed Hermielex Kapusan, head teacher of Tukanakuden Elementary School in Barangay Tukanakuden, Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao del Sur.
Kapusan was heading home on a motorbike when ambushed in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.
