Fireworks factory worker killed in explosion in Bulacan town

BOCAUE, Bulacan — A 45-year-old fireworks factory worker was killed in an explosion in this town on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday, Nov. 23.

In a report, Bulacan police chief Colonel Relly Arnedo identified the victim as Rizza Villanueva, 45, from Sitio (sub-village) Bihunan, Barangay Bunlo, who works for Fireworks Trading Miracles.

Arnedo said Villanueva was making baby rockets, locally known as “kwitis,” at their factory in Sitio Dam, also in Bunlo, when the explosion happened at 5:40 p.m.

Villanueva was taken to the Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos, but died on the way due to her injuries.

Arnedo said they were still investigating the cause of the explosion.
