Over 300K affected by rains due to shear line in 5 regions
MANILA, Philippines — As many as 307,087 people were affected by relentless rains induced by the shear line, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
According to NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal, five regions are hit by the shear line rains: Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
“As of this time po, ang total computed affected natin na naiulat dito sa NDRRMC operations center ay nasa 81,000 families pag isinalin po natin yan to persons, bali 307,000 individuals po ito,” said Timbal in the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing on Wednesday.
(As of now, the total computed of those affected reported in the NDRRMC operations center is around 81,000 families or 307,000 individuals.)
Timbal said that Eastern Visayas fared the worst regarding individuals affected, with 133,000 affected by the rains.
Article continues after this advertisementThe NDRRMC report stated that 132 areas were flooded, and there were 17 landslides. It also logged 43,665 evacuees in 104 evacuation centers.
Article continues after this advertisementTimbal reminded Filipinos that disasters could still strike while there is no tropical cyclone. He urged affected populations to cooperate with local authorities if they advise to evacuate.
