Immigration agents nab Taiwanese fugitive in Pasay City
MANILA, Philippines — Immigration agents have arrested a Taiwanese wanted in his country for telecommunications fraud.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Wednesday that Shan Yu-Hsuan was nabbed by its Fugitive Search Unit last Friday, Nov. 17, in Pasay City.
According to the BI, the Taiwanese government made a request and sought Shan’s deportation so he could undergo trial for his crime. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco issued a corresponding mission order to capture the foreigner, who was also found to be overstaying in the Philippines.
Citing information from Taiwan authorities, the BI said Ciaotou District Court in Kaohsiung issued a warrant for Shan’s arrest on March 25, 2019, over charges that he supervised a call center in Taiwan where his sales agents engaged in phishing to dupe online customers.
“He will be deported after our BI Board of Commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation,” Tansingco said in a statement.
