MANILA, Philippines — The extension of the low-pressure area (LPA) east of northeastern Mindanao was forecast to drench Palawan, Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Caraga, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi on Friday, the state weather bureau said.
Heavy rains will likely trigger flash floods and landslides in affected areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned.
In an early Friday public report, Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio explained that the LPA may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the day but maintains a low chance of intensifying into a cyclone.

The LPA’s extension, which is also called a trough, was among three weather systems that are expected to bring rain in many parts of the country.
A shear line and the northeast monsoon (locally termed amihan) will continue to affect Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas, according to Pagasa.
It also said that Batanes and Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands, are anticipated to have cloudy skies with light rains this Friday, while the rest of Luzon will experience generally fair weather despite possibilities of isolated light rains.
Generally fair weather may likewise occur in other parts of Visayas and Mindanao that are outside areas affected by the LPA’s trough.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said it maintained its gale warning in the seaboards of the following areas:
- Batanes
- Ilocos Norte
- Ilocos Sur
- Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
- Isabela
- Aurora
- Northern coast of Quezon including Polillo Islands
- Camarines Norte
- Albay
- Kalayaan Islands
- Sorsogon
- Northern and eastern coast of Catanduanes
- Northern and eastern coasts of Northern Samar
- Eastern coast of Eastern Samar
- Dinagat Islands
- Eastern coast of Surigao del Norte
