MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday said it will use majority of its proposed P2.67 billion 2024 budget for the modernization of the bureau’s operations, particularly in airports. The Senate on Tuesday approved the BI’s proposed budget.

In a statement, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco thanked the Senate for approving their P2.67 billion budget request on Tuesday.

Tansingco said the BI will digitize airport operations by procuring additional electronic gates in arrival and departure areas to decongest immigration screening areas by lessening the processing time from 45 seconds to eight seconds per passenger.

Tansingco added that part of the budget will also be for the procurement of body camera systems for secondary inspectors assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, and other provincial international airports, as well as the Zamboanga International Seaport.
