ORMOC CITY — A newly-elected village chief died in a road mishap at Bagacay-Maharlika Highway in Tacloban City on Friday, November 10.

A police report showed that the motorcycle driven by the husband of barangay chair Niña Danica Bayona, 28, was rammed by a tricycle along the highway in Barangay 93.

Bayona won in the recently concluded barangay polls as chair of Sampaguita in Dagami town.

The report also said that Bayona’s husband, Police Corporal Leomer Bayona, 30, was injured in the incident.

Based on the initial investigation, the Bayona couple was traveling the Bagacay-Maharlika Highway from Diit-Maharlika when the tricycle driven by Bernie Gacoscosim, 32, bumped into them.

The victims, according to investigators, were thrown off their motorcycle. The barangay chairperson died instantly, they also said.

Police said Gacoscosim failed to show a driver’s license and has since been taken into the custody of the Tacloban City Police Office pending the filing of a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injury.
